The research group “Chemistry in Aerosols, the Atmosphere, and Aqueous Solutions” (CIA3) invites applications for a doctoral position in BlueMat’s Research Area B (Fluid Transport Materials). The research project will focus on the controlled condensation and evaporation of water at nanoparticle interfaces for applications such as artificial rain, in-situ water harvesting, and targeted inhalation therapies.

About your role:

Production and chemical and morphological characterization of artificial nano-particles
Quantification of water uptake potential using a range of spectroscopic and imaging techniques
Mapping water interactions to nano-particle characteristics
Estimating the potential for water harvesting and inhalation drug delivery
Collaborate closely with BlueMat partners
Share your findings through publications and engage with the research community and public

About you:

Completed scientific university studies (Master's) in physics, chemistry, or materials/nano/aerosol science
Experience with aerosol generation
Experience with synchrotron radiation and X-ray spectroscopy and imaging
Experience with surface, aerosol, or nanoparticle characterization
Experience with complementary theoretical and/or computational methods, such as hygroscopic modeling, molecular dynamics, and AI/ML, would be an advantage
Curiosity and ability to work independently
Teamwork skills for working in interdisciplinary teams
Very good English required (minimum B2)

In this role, you will work with the control electronics that operate and coordinate the instruments and motion systems, enabling experiments to run smoothly, safely, and with high precision. As an Electronics Engineer in the Electronics Unit, you will:

Develop and maintain control electronics hardware for the ESRF experimental stations (beamlines) and the accelerator complex. Provide high-quality technical support to users, ensuring reliable operation of our control electronics solutions across beamlines and accelerators. Design and implement electronics for instrumentation, including sensor interfaces, low-noise and high-speed circuits, embedded systems, and motion control.

You will have the opportunity to work on exciting and high-impact projects, including:

Participate in the construction of a new state-of-the-art beamline. Collaborate on the development of mechatronic instruments with nanometer-level positioning resolution. Contribute to advanced timing systems achieving sub-nanosecond synchronisation and picosecond jitter, and to instrumentation enabling picoampere-level current measurements.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a proactive, technically skilled, and hands-on engineer with a solution-driven mindset and a strong sense of service to internal users. You should have:

A Master’s degree (or equivalent, 300 ECTS) in Electronics or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience in electronics engineering, ideally with hands-on electronic boards design. Candidates with less experience may be considered if they have relevant expertise.
Solid background in digital and analog electronics, including circuit design, schematics, and PCB layout.
Good IT proficiency; programming (Python, C) and FPGA design are assets.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, with effective time management and sound critical thinking.

Key responsibilities of the Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary, based in Copenhagen, heads the Secretariat of approximately 35 staff, and is responsible to the Governing Board for developing and implementing GBIF’s strategic plans, operating the infrastructure, serving users and fostering partnerships. The Executive Secretary is overall responsible for financial stability and a thriving organization, and reports to the Chair of the Board.

Key skills and experience

Remuneration and conditions of contract

A relocation package and benefits from the diplomatic status of the GBIF Secretariat are available for internationally recruited staff.

Job Duties

Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and performance of existing Power BI dashboards utilized for research and quality improvement.
Manage, develop, and optimize research databases, data collection systems, and data workflows to support ongoing and upcoming fetal intervention studies and FDA regulated clinical trials.
Support identification, integration, and preparation of large clinical, imaging, and longitudinal research datasets generated across interdepartmental partners.
Interpret complex clinical and research data using advanced statistical and analytics techniques; develop predictive models to support fetal intervention planning, patient risk stratification, and trial outcomes forecasting.
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns within high volume, multifaceted datasets relevant to maternal-fetal research.
Develop new dashboards, data visualization aids, and analytic tools tailored to the unique needs of fetal intervention studies, regulatory reporting, and research publications.
Work collaboratively with physicians, research coordinators, statisticians, data managers, and interdepartmental partners within Texas Children’s Hospital Fetal Center to understand research and operational requirements and translate them into intuitive analytic solutions.
Provide consultative analytics support to clinical trial teams, offering actionable insights to guide process improvements, protocol planning, and research strategy.
Prepare high quality, well documented analytic outputs that support manuscripts, presentations, grants, regulatory submissions, and internal research reviews.

Continuously refine and improve analytics pipelines supporting fetal center workflows, multi site collaborations, and clinical trial operations.
